  12. COMPATIBILITY STATEMENT
  13. JetFax Inc.'s JetFax II with DOS and Windows software has been
  14. tested compatible with LANtastic versions 4.xx and 5.xx.
  15.  
  16. PRODUCT OVERVIEW
  17. JetFax II provides network fax capabilities using a laser printer
  18. without the need of an internal fax board. The JetFax hardware
  19. connects between an HP LaserJet II, III or compatible printer and
  20. the parallel or serial port on the PC. Also, an outside phone line
  21. must be connected to the JetFax device to send and receive faxes.

  23. The JetFax software allows network users to send fax's from an
  24. interactive menu-driven utility or within any application.
  25.  
  26. INSTALLATION
  27. The PC which is equipped with the JetFax device and laser printer
  28. must be configured as a LANtastic server (JetFax hardware server).
  29. Both the DOS and Windows versions of the JetFax software can be
  30. installed on the JetFax hardware server, local workstation or other
  31. LANtastic server (JetFax software server). Install the software
  32. from the JetFax distribution diskette.

  34. On each LANtastic workstation (or server that will be used as a
  35. workstation) which will use the JetFax system, edit the
  36. AUTOEXEC.BAT file to include:

  41. Set Fax=<drive\directory>

  43. where <drive\directory> is the drive and directory containing the
  44. JetFax software. This may be a local or redirected (network) drive.
  45.  
  46. Set Faxuser=<drive\user directory> 
  47.  
  48. where <drive\user directory> is the (personal) user configuration
  49. drive and directory.

  51. DOS and Windows Installation
  52.  
  53. The DOS PATH must include the true path to the JetFax software.
  54. This may be either local (e.g. C:\JETFAX) or redirected (e.g.
  55. J:\JETFAX).

  57. OPERATION DOS
  58. The JetFax software has two components: an interactive menu driven
  59. utility that allows faxing of files in a flexible manner, or a
  60. terminate and stay resident (TSR) module that captures images from
  61. applications as they are "printed" to a redirected network port.

  63. To start the TSR module from a WORKSTATION or SERVER:
  64.  
  65.      NET LOGIN \\<JetFax hardware server> <User-ID> <Password> 
  66.      NET USE LPT1 \\<JetFax hardware server>\<@ laser printer

  69.      If the JetFax software is not installed at the local
  70. workstation, then    additionally:

  72.      NET USE <available drive>: \\<JetFax software server>\<JetFax

  76. This 9K TSR will capture output from LPT1 and convert it to fax
  77. format. Faxes can, therefore, be created from any application that
  78. supports printing to a laser printer.

  80. Windows
  81. JetFax Windows has two components: a fax program and a fax print
  82. driver. The fax program allows users to set individual options as
  83. well as send "quick notes", PCX, DCX and Tiff images. The print
  84. driver can be accessed from any Windows application and allows the
  85. user to send any document while retaining fonts and graphic
  86. information.

  88. The Windows version requires no TSR.
  89.  
  90. Disabling the printer queue on the JetFax hardware server will stop
  91. all outgoing faxes.

  93. SECURITY
  94.  
  95. The fax phone book can be shared between users on the network. You
  96. can use standard LANtastic ACL security features to control access
  97. to fax phone books and logs.

  99. NETWORK DISCONNECTS
  100. JetFax formats the fax job to look like a LANtastic print job.
  101. After a disconnect, simply re-establish connection to the JetFax
  102. server. Faxes not actually sent while using the Windows interface
  103. will be automatically resent. Faxes not actually sent while using
  104. the DOS interface can be resent using the re-send option.
